Custom Attendance Status'
In the attendance section there is no way for teachers to schedule / report make-up lessons. This requires our teachers to email in our company any time a make-up lesson is completed.
It'd be cool if there was a way for us to have the attendance options be:
Attended
Excused
Unexcused
If the option Excused was chosen then a little link would pop up to report a make-up lesson completed, which would show up in the attendance records.
This would be a huge huge fix for us.
Changing the name of this suggestion as we are working on the custom attendance status’. We will still use the basic three ways to charge, attended, cancelled and absent. But you will be able to make a custom attendance name and use one of the status’ list whether it will be charged or not. Once this goes live, if there are other areas you think would benefit SH, please put that in a new suggestion.

Is this available yet? I don't see it but maybe I'm missing it.

This is not really a big issue for us. The teacher simply edits the lesson date to the date from when it was scheduled to when it will be made up. Then, when that date comes, it is marked 'attended' or 'absent'. Perhaps our policy for paying teachers helps with this system as we pay the teacher only in the month when the lesson is taught, not when it was scheduled to be taught. .

We are considering this software, but would never purchase without a make-up tracking ability. Please update us on progress in this regard, thank you!

One program I saw recently has a drop down menu when a lesson is rescheduled or cancelled that includes "cancelled with makeup." The program then keeps track of each student's makeup credits on his/her record. Then, on the master calendar, you can see by color what times are open for makeup classes. Also, when adding a lesson for an existing student, "makeup" is an option there, too.

It would also be beneficial to have the ability to give makeup credits towards tuition (ex: a family lets us know well in advance they will be gone a certain week, so we charge them less that month). We normally charge monthly tuition (constant monthly rate regardless of actual number of lessons that month, so changing our StudioHelper to charge per lesson is not a viable option).

Where is this in the process? Any goal date of completion?
It's been almost 2 years since first listed. It's likely the most important issue for music studios (it is for us!) and it would be nice to at least be in the loop.

This would be great if also in the reporting we could find out who has cancelled or absent lessons from the calendar and filter it that way so we can see in a week who may need to be contacted rather than one a time.

Where are we at here. Its been a year!!!!

@violin - Yes, we're working on custom attendance statuses as described here: http://studiohelper.uservoice.com/forums/119061-suggestions/suggestions/2724237-allow-canceled-lessons-to-be-charged-to-clients-
We're a bit behind schedule because we're working on upgrading and testing the underlying framework of Studio Helper for overall better performance, but these tasks are among the next on the list to finish and have already begun. -

since work on this has started, i actually think that each studio would be able to choose which terminology to use. as in, we add our own (so being given the option to do so.) the consequences change if for example the student no showed, cancelled, or had an emergency. also, sometimes the teacher needs to reschedule students so the consequences are different there too. any chance we can have the option of adding our own terminology. that would solve a HUGE problem for us!

The M Word
Re terminology: If you implement this option I would strongly suggest that you use the term "reschedule" instead of "makeup" lessson. Make-up lessons are the bane of many studios and can wreak havoc with schedules and expected income. My teachers don't offer makeup lessons, however we do sometimes allow a lesson to be rescheduled with advance notice.

"Started" means our programmers have begun working on it. When we've launched it into the live program, the idea will be updated to a status of "Completed."

It says this was started. Yet, mine still has just the old options.

This would be great! Also, our studio bills on the 1st for that month of lessons...any way to get a credit option to allow for credits of previous month's lessons that were paid but not used?

This is a great idea!

I definitely like the options proposed by Mountain Valley. These are very similar to the options we have in our current paper system. Whether or not a make-up lesson is due is a big deal.

I like the comment below from Mountain valley studios, because it captures whether or not a make up is required.
- Attended, on time
- Attended, late
- No-Show (no make-up)
- Cancelled by Student (make-up/credit due)
-Cancelled by Student (no make-up/credit)
-Cancelled by Teacher/Studio (make-up/credit due) -
If a lesson is marked as "Cancelled" it will not be charged or show up on the invoice if using the "Automatic Billing from Calendar" option.
However, if you mark a lesson as "Absent", it will charge for the lesson and show it on the invoice. It sounds like this is the option you're looking for.

Has this been changed (as of 5/19/12)? I'm evaluating this product, and not being able to charge for missed classes wouldn't work for me.
Thank you

It's a given that if a student attended the lesson, they are charged. So that this change is useful for both the studio that charges by the lesson, and the one (like myself) that charges by the month, you could make it read something more like this:
- Attended, on time
- Attended, late
- No-Show (no make-up)
- Cancelled by Student (make-up/credit due)
-Cancelled by Student (no make-up/credit)
-Cancelled by Teacher/Studio (make-up/credit due)
